A Villa Laundry Schedule That Actually Holds: What We'd Send Weekly, Monthly and Before Ramadan

A family villa runs cheapest on a fixed laundry cadence: clothes in bulk bags every week, bedding once a month, duvets and mattress protectors once a quarter, curtains twice a year, and school uniforms in one bundle before term. For a five person villa in Al Waab, Abu Hamour or Al Gharrafa, that schedule comes to around QAR 1,230 a month on our current Qatar prices, and nothing gets forgotten.

Why does a fixed cadence cost less than sending laundry when it piles up?

A fixed cadence costs less for two reasons. First, bulk items go into per kilo bags instead of being priced per piece. Second, big items like duvets and curtains get cleaned on a schedule rather than when someone finally notices, which is usually after the fabric has taken damage that cleaning cannot undo.

The per piece trap is the expensive one for families. Forty children's t-shirts sent individually would be QAR 15 each on our clean and press list, which is QAR 600. The same forty t-shirts fit comfortably in one 12kg wash and fold bag at QAR 120.

The second reason is quieter but bigger over years. Curtains in a Doha villa collect fine dust that abrades the weave. Left three years, they fade unevenly and the lining rots at the hem, and the only fix is replacement.

• Children's clothes, towels and casual wear: always by the bag, never per piece
• Bedding: per piece, but on a monthly rotation so it never becomes a stack of eight sheets
• Duvets, comforters and mattress protectors: per piece, once a quarter
• Curtains and sofa covers: per square meter or per cover, twice a year

What goes out every week?

Every week, one or two wash and fold bags leave the villa with clothes, towels and anything worn from the fold. A 12kg bag is QAR 120 and a 6kg bag is QAR 60, with QAR 12 for each extra kilo. For a family of five, a 12kg bag plus a 6kg bag is the usual weekly volume, QAR 180.

What belongs in the bag

Everything worn straight from the fold: t-shirts, shorts, pajamas, underwear, socks, sportswear, towels, kitchen cloths and the children's play clothes. Baby items can go in the bag too, though we also price them at QAR 6 each as clean and press if you want them pressed and hygienically finished separately.

Keep one open bag in the utility room and one upstairs. Both go out on pickup day. Sorting is done at our end, so nothing needs separating by color or fabric at home.

What comes out of the bag and goes on a hanger

Anything that needs a crease or a collar stays out of the bag and is priced per piece: adult office shirts at QAR 15 clean and press, trousers at QAR 18, abayas at QAR 18 basic or QAR 35 delicate, and school shirts if you want them pressed. A typical villa week adds five to ten hanger items.

What goes out once a month?

Once a month, strip every bed and send the sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers together. For three beds that is three sheets at QAR 18, six pillowcases at QAR 7 and three duvet covers at QAR 25, which is QAR 171 a month. Everything comes back pressed and folded flat, ready for the linen cupboard.

Send bedding on its own pickup day rather than with the weekly bags. It makes the invoice easy to read and it stops the bedding order being skipped in a week when the bags are already full.

Bath towels and bath mats can ride with the monthly order too if they are not already in the weekly bag. A bath towel is QAR 6 and a bath mat QAR 10, sanitized at high temperature.

Guest bedding and the spare room

Guest bedding is the exception to the monthly rule. Send it after every visit rather than on the schedule, because a spare room sheet that sits used for six weeks is what guests notice first. One set is around QAR 50 to clean and press, and it comes back folded flat for the cupboard.

What goes out once a quarter and twice a year?

Once a quarter, the duvets and mattress protectors go out: three duvets at QAR 50 and three protectors at QAR 30, which is QAR 240 every three months. Twice a year, the curtains and sofa covers go out. Curtains are QAR 20 per square meter unlined or QAR 25 with blackout lining, and a regular sofa cover is QAR 35.

Curtains are measured by width times drop per panel. A villa living room with around 40 square meters of unlined curtain is QAR 800 a visit, or QAR 1,000 with blackout lining. Bedroom blackout curtains are usually smaller and cheaper per room.

• Quarterly: 3 duvets (QAR 150) + 3 mattress protectors (QAR 90) = QAR 240
• Twice a year: living room curtains, about QAR 800 unlined, plus sofa cover QAR 35
• Twice a year: large blanket QAR 40, comforter QAR 45, cushion covers QAR 10 to 20 each
• Carpets when needed: QAR 20 per square meter regular, QAR 26 wool

What goes out before term starts?

Two weeks before term, every uniform goes out in one order at the bundle rate: QAR 175 for five alteration items or QAR 300 for ten, covering hems, waists and sleeves for all the children together. School bags are QAR 40 each and kids shoes QAR 35 a pair, so a three child reset is around QAR 525.

Doing it as one order matters. Uniform alterations sent one child at a time cost QAR 40 per item on the standard list, so ten items are QAR 400 against the QAR 300 bundle. The bundle also comes back together, which is the only way to avoid a missing blazer on the first morning.

The families who spend least with us are not the ones who send the least. They are the ones who send the same things on the same days, because nothing ends up as a per piece emergency.

What goes out before Ramadan and Eid?

Before Ramadan, send the guest bedding, the formal tablecloths, the majlis cushion covers and the good comforters in one order so the house is ready for visitors. Before Eid, send the family's occasion wear: abayas, thobes, jalabiyas and children's outfits. Both orders are small on their own and easy to forget without a date on the calendar.

On the Qatar list, a tablecloth is QAR 15, a large cushion cover QAR 20, a comforter QAR 45 and a thobe QAR 15 clean and press. A wedding abaya is QAR 50 and a delicate abaya QAR 35, so a full Eid order for a family usually lands between QAR 200 and QAR 400.

Book the Ramadan order three weeks ahead. It is the busiest home textile period of the year, and curtains in particular should not be left to the last week.

How does villa pickup work in Al Waab, Abu Hamour and Al Gharrafa?

Pickup is free across Qatar on orders of QAR 50 or more, and a villa order always meets that. Send the compound or street name, villa number and a preferred window on WhatsApp, and ask for a standing weekly slot. Bags, hanger items and bedding can all be collected in the same visit, with big items like curtains booked separately.

Compound villas should include the gate or compound name and any entry instruction in the first message, since many compounds in these areas share a security desk.

• Keep the weekly bags by the front door on pickup morning so the driver does not need to enter
• Send bedding on a separate day from bags so nothing gets skipped
• Photograph curtains before removal so panels go back on the right rail
• Say which items are alterations, cleaning or both in the message, so the invoice is right before pickup
